Preston and YaoDan: 2018
Dani really likes Hallowe’en and really enjoys
seeing the costumed children at our door.
However, last year, YaoYao and I explained to
Dani that saying, “I love you” and hugging the
children can be inappropriate and upsetting for
the parents who are standing by. My wife is
such an ingenuous sweety!
But this year, Dani was in Vancouver for
Hallowe’en.
A couple of weeks before Hallowe’en, we
visited the Hallowe’en store and Dani had a
blast. She play-acted at being the victim of
animatronic zombies and screamed in the
haunted house for the pure pleasure of feined
terror.
During the fall, Dani and I also visited the
Maritime Museum which is home to the St.
Roch, the first ship to circumnavigate North
America and the second to complete a voyage
through the Northwest Passage. Afterwards,
we took some time to explore Stanley Park.
We harvested the garden which yielded way
too many beans, lots of tomatoes, bags of
potatoes, onions, cucumbers and more apples
than we could possibly use. Next year, my
struggle to defeat the Codling moth will be
redoubled; this year, my ignorance left the
apples open to a major assault, sadly.
We twice enjoyed the Richmond Night Festival,
and we frequented the rivers looking for
spawning salmon.
Twice we went to the Richmond Night
Festival, once with YaoYao and Mimi. A
hundred or so vendors offer a huge
variety of foods and novelty items. The
crowd becomes so thick that movement
can seem impossible. Still, we enjoyed
the treats!
