The background photo is Lake Louise. Here’s the
story:
When Dani’s mother and sister (Yao Hong) came
to Canada in 2016, we drove from Jasper to
Banff. Our Chinese guests always want to see
Banff, which the call “Banfoo”. However, I knew
that the best scenery lies between Jasper and a
little south of Saskatchewan Crossing.
But on that occasion, when we stopped at the at
Saskatchewan Crossing, I discovered my coat
and wallet were missing. We drove back to
Jasper, stopping each place we had stopped
before, but we didn’t find it. The phone rang
once, but there was no service; I couldn’t
answer, nor hear the message.
We finally arrived in Jasper, and I was able to
hear the message from a store at Columbia
Icefields; they had my wallet and coat.
Driving all the way back to Jasper caused a lot of
delay we stopped at Lake Louise in the dark,
which was pointless. Nothing to see.
Everyone said it was okay, but I was distraught.
That was three years ago. This year, with Yao
Hong and her husband in the car, I intended to
turn off at Lake Louise for a visit in the daylight.
But I missed the turn-off, somehow. Eventually,
frustrated, I parked off the highway to check the
map; it was 30 minutes behind us. Since we
were going to Calgary, we decided not to add
that hour to our journey.
Everyone agreed. I was distraught.
After Calgary, when we were returning to
Chilliwack, we stopped at several places and as
such, we were finally on our way from Banfoo
around 3:00 pm with a very long drive ahead.
Kindly and reasonably, everyone agreed we
shouldn’t stop at Lake Louise. I agreed, but as
we approached the overpass, I could not bear to
deny Yao Hong a visit for a third time.
So, to everyone’s soft-spoken protests and
hopeful surprise, I took the exit ramp.
And on this page, PART of our journey.
See “Alberta” for more pictures and fewer
words. :D
Near Lake Minnewanka. Yes, I need to
exercise a little bit more often. The last
three years have taken a toll.
Here we are in
Johnston Canyon. It
was chilly, but
uncrowded. I haven’t
been there for 50
years. It’s different. :D
Dani and YaoYao needed to
pee. So I stopped . . . at the
Banff Springs Hotel!
Dani did not waste the
opportunity for a few photos.
Lake Louise
at last!
We went to the top of the dam, in
Canmore. The view is spectacular.
However, on this day, it was the wind
that impressed us. It was difficult to
stand, and really, really cold.
