At Home
These photos are from all through the year.
The fruit on the hawthorns: when Dani shoved
little sticks in the ground four years ago, I
thought nothing would come of it.
She was right: the sticks became trees.
The fruit, like the plums, finally appeared, this
year. A visiting arborist was fascinated with them
and said he had no idea what they were. He
took pictures after I suggested they are Asian or
Siberian Hawthorne. Dani prepared the fruit for
eating.
We had a fire near our house. We were in the
car and far away when it started. When we saw
the smoke, we knew it was near our house, and
we were a little worried through the drive home.
The fire destroyed a very large building. We
learned later that it was, of course, a meth lab.
This photo is taken from our bedroom window.
(The background photo was taken at Johnston
Canyon, so technically not ‘at home’.)
One of the greatest joys of this year has been
playing cards with my family on my deck. And
here’s Mimi, rarely photographed.
